TED Talk Thursday: The Future Of Clean, Efficient Energy Is Here Now

This TED Talk features Justin Tipping-Hall, CEO of Nanoholdings, talking about the extraordinary work being done on nanotechnology that’s focused on creating alternative solutions for how we generate, transmit, store and use energy. Tipping-Hall asks us to question our idea of “normal”, and suggests this can lead to huge breakthroughs. Surprisingly moving, I recommend spending 12 minutes of your time watching this video:

In stark contrast to Tipping-Hall, whose compassion for a young girl dying of thirst compels him to search for free clean energy, I’m reposting this disturbing video of mining executives in Australia plotting with anti-science climate crank Christopher Monckton about how to control the media’s message about climate change, pollution, and anti-industry messaging.  What do you think motivates them? The only thing they have in their wallet is the almighty dollar, the more of it the better, who cares about the children suffering right here and now because of their actions.

I know who I trust more with my children’s future.

    • It’s amazing what is right around the corner for humanity, if only we decide to leave behind the fossil fuel economy and the greed paradigm.

  1. There’s one problem with ‘my energy’. It sounds wonderful: it’s clean, efficient, free, and it produces potable water as a side-product.

The downside is that its implementation would put existing, very powerful, energy corporations out of business: something that can never happen given our ‘normal’ business model.

    • You’re right – but it is becoming abundantly apparent that the world (the climate, the ocean, our freshwater sources) can’t take much more of the business-as-usual model. Hang on to your hats, change is a-comin’, whether we welcome it or not.
